However, unlike previous games, Super Robot Wars 30 is non-linear, which is an amazing change of pace. It just feels more manageable than previous games. Occasionally you just have to survive, or you just have to prevent units from reaching a certain point on the map. Most of the time, it’s “defeat everyone” or “defeat X”. You move along a grid and defeat the enemies as per the requirements of the map. You select a mission, and drop onto a map and select your mecha (and battleships). The gameplay loop is going to be familiar to turn-based strategy fans. Personally, I’m playing on Normal but will try harder difficulties later. SRW 30 also has a difficulty meter you can select (and change if you’re not happy). It has to be because I’ve been replaying some of the PSX/Vita games, which are incredibly difficult. One thing I’ve noticed is that the game feels easier. However, the tutorial system is solid, and in combat the game does offer useful tips in the “Objectives” section. There’s a lot to combat and upgrading in this game. I can see how people new to Super Robot Wars 30 could find it overwhelming.
